              New Delhi: 
              The 240-member newly elected Tamil Nadu Assembly which will 
              see 63-year old AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa as the Chief 
              Minister, will have just 5 Muslim MLAs - two short of the number 
              in the last assembly. 
              
                
              
              Among the winners are TMMK chief and 
              active Muslim community leader Prof MH Jawahirullah, who has won 
              the Ramanathapuram assembly seat by defeating Congress candidate 
              and AIADMK leaders Abdul Raheem and A. Mohammed John.  
              
                
              
              Other Muslim candidates who have won 
              the elections inculde T.P.M. Mohideen Khan of DMK and Aslam Basha 
              A of TMMK. 
              
                
              
              In the 2006 elections, seven Muslim 
              candidates had made to the state assembly.  
              
                
              
              The elections for the 240-Tamil Nadu 
              assembly elections were held in April/May this year. AIADMK 
              alliance led by J Jayalalitha has convincingly defeated the DMK 
              alliance by winning 150 seats - a gain of 89 seats as compared to 
              the 2006 elections. 
              
                
              
              Karunanidhi led ruling DMK, which 
              was facing the corruption charges could win just 23 seats. It had
