New Delhi: A rights
group Thursday announced a protest rally in the capital to protest
the non-implementation of the welfare measures for the disabled in
the 11th five-year plan (2007-2011).
"The government has started its preparations for the 12th plan
(2012-2017). But everyone seems to have forgotten about the
unfulfilled decisions that were taken for the welfare of the
disabled in the 11th plan," Javed Abidi, convenor of the disabled
rights group, said in a statement.
The group will protest Friday morning at 10.30 a.m. at Yojana
Bhawan, the statement said.
The 11th five-year plan included strengthening of the 'disability
division' in the ministry of social justice and empowerment, set
up monitoring mechanisms to review systems, new policies in the
health ministry for the disabled.
"It all appears very hollow. We cannot possibly talk about the
12th plan without making the government accountable for what it
had committed in the 11th Plan," Abidi added.
