New Delhi: In the wake
of the Anna Hazare campaign against corruption, as many as 74
percent of respondents say they are dissatisfied with the
Congress-led government, says a survey.
This is a 13 percent increase over the early August figure of 61
percent, says the LensOnNews opinion poll carried out in the first
week of September.
Respondents faulted the government on multiple fronts including
inflation, corruption and failure to check Maoist and Jehadi
violence.
According to the survey, 84 percent voiced support for the Jan
Lokpal Bill of Hazare, thinking it can potentially be a large step
in the nation's efforts to control corruption.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh enjoys a relatively better support
base compared to his government, with 66 percent saying they were
dissatisfied with his performance.
"The difference is explained by the fact that the brunt of the
public ire for the arrogance and incompetence of the government
was borne by cabinet ministers such as P. Chidambaram and Kapil
Sibal," the survey said.
The September round of the LensOnNews monthly tracking poll was
carried out among 2,064 voters in 13 cities, including the four
metros, between Sep 1 and 6. The findings are subject to a margin
of error of 4 percent.
