Aligarh:
The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Executive Council (EC) decided
in its meeting held today in New Delhi to call a special
meeting on April 12, 2012 to
draw a panel of five names for the new Vice Chancellor.
The panel of five will
be then put before the University Court in its meeting to be held on April 15 for
further discussion.
The University Court will then recommend a panel of three names to
the President of India as the Visitor of the University for her
final approval to one name.
The decision was taken in the EC
meeting held
today at the India International Centre, New Delhi. It was presided over by the Visitor Nominee EC member, Prof. A. M. Pathan,
Vice Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka, Gulbarga.
The meeting was attended by 16
members. The meeting held in a cordial atmosphere decided not to
take any policy making decision until the appointment of a
permanent Vice Chancellor.
The meeting also decided to carry
the routine work of the University during the interim period. The
present members agreed to hold the meeting of the Executive
Council on regular basis.
Regarding the issuing of degrees to
the passed out students, it was decided that provisional degrees
might be issued to the needy students since it was no feasible to
issue degrees in the absence of a permanent Vice Chancellor, the
authorized signatory.
The idea of constituting a committee
of members of the Executive Council to carry the routine work of
the University was dropped in the absence of a consensus on the
motion.
