Bhopal/New Delhi: The
CBI Friday arrested a woman friend of Zahida Parvez, an interior
designer arrested for the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Saba Farooqui
was aware of the murder and is believed to have assisted Parvez in
the conspiracy.
The CBI had Feb 28 arrested Parvez along with a man whom she had
allegedly hired to kill Masood. Both are in CBI custody upto March
6.
Pervez had reportedly told the CBI that she had had developed an
animosity to Masood and hired a contract killer to eliminate her.
According to informed sources, the murder was an outcome of an
extra-marital affair.
The 32-year-old Masood was shot dead in front of her house Aug 16
last year. The CBI took over the case three weeks after the
murder.
The Bhopal unit of the CBI was looking into the murder since the
first week of September and announced a reward of Rs.5 lakh for
information that would lead to the assailants.
As it failed to make any headway, the probe was handed over to the
Delhi team of the CBI.
Besides arresting Saba Farooqui, the CBI also recovered a
motorcycle used in the killing as well as a diary said to belong
to Zahida Parvez.
"The diary also put light on the role of a Bhopal BJP MLA who is
under the CBI scanner," a source in Bhopal said.
