Patna: Hundreds of
people on Wednesday took out a protest march in Bihar's Darbhanga
district to protest against the recent arrest of two people from
the state on terror charges.
The protestors were shouting slogans
against the police and governments for arresting in illegal
fashion young boys -- whom they say are innocents -- in terror
cases, TCN reported.
"Anger is growing among the people
against arrest of innocents. This massive protest will instill
some confidence and courage among the villagers who were
frightened and shocked following these arrests," TCN quoted
Shakeel Shamsi, president Muslim Bedari Carvan, as saying. Today's
protest was organised by the Carvan.
The people also protested against local Janata Dal-United
legislator Izhar Ahmad, accusing him on being silent on the issue.
"Resentment against politicians over
the issue is so deep that when local JDU MLA Izhar Ahmed reached
to address today’s gathering, people hooted him out, and he had to
take refuge in police and district officials", Shamsi said.
Janata Dal - United is leading an
alliance government with the right-wing Bhartia Janata Party (BJP).
It was the first major protest
against the illegal detention of Muslim youth in fresh crackdown
started few months back. From Badh Samela village alone under
Keoti police station in Darbhanga, four youths have been picked in
terror cases since November 2011.
Kafil Akhtar was arrested from a village in the district by the
Karnataka Police earlier this month while Fasih Mehmood was held
in Saudi Arabia May 14.
