Get crime clearance if wanna watch kids playing: British schools

Sunday September 30, 2012 07:35:31 PM, IANS

London: A British school has asked parents to first clear a criminal records check before being allowed to watch their kids participate in games.

The decision has sparked furious rows between teachers and parents.

A child's father said he was shocked on being barred when he went to see his son, 12, play rugby.

"I was turned away as I hadn't been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau. What will they ban us from next? School plays?" he said.

Parents are being asked to contact the school in Wiltshire so that clearance can be organised.

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check, costing about $40, involves filling in a four-page form. Government guidance says checks are required when applying for jobs with kids.
