Jamia Millia Islamia turns 93

Jamia Millia Islamia on October 29 celebrated its 93rd Foundation Day. The Foundation Day celebrations began at 9.30 AM outside the Dr. M A Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia where the Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Mohammad Zakir, Retired Professor from the Department of Urdu along with Prof. S.M. Sajid, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia received the Guard of Honour by NCC Cadets of Jamia.

This was followed by a Flag Hoisting Ceremony by the Chief Guest, Dr. Mohammad Zakir and a Foundation Day Function at M A Ansari Auditorium which has been traditionally organized by the Jamia Middle School.

While addressing the foundation function, Vice Chancellor S.M. Sajid exhorted the students to remember the sacrifice made by the founders of Jamia. In his speech he also announced that the Centre for Information Technology at Jamia will soon provide a unique email id all students enrolled in Jamia. The number stands at 18,000
approximately.

He said that this channel of communication between students and teachers will help them stay in touch with each other much more whereby they will be able to sh are study material, develop online tests, online submissions etc.

He also said that Jamia is also thinking on the lines of starting a certificate course in Urdu so that those desirous of learning the language will be able to do so by enrolling in this part time course.

The Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated an Exhibition of "Indo-Islamic Architecture" at 11.30 AM in the Al Beruni Block, Old Block Zakir Husain Library which has been organized by the Prem chand Archives & Literary Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia. The Premchand Archives & Literary Centre has a rich collection.

In the evening on the 29th October at 7.30 PM, the Department of Urdu, Jamia Millia Islamia will organize a "Mushaira" in the Dr. M. A. Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia.

The highlights of the programme were: the story of Jamia, as narrated by the students of Jamia school; the song sung by students of the nursery school; the jamia tarana sung by students; the report of the unive rsity presented by students.

The celebrations will continue into the second and third day as well.

On October 30, Prof. Mohd. Mujeeb Memorial Lecture will be held at Edward Said Hall, (Administrative Block), Jamia Millia Islamia, which will be organized by the Zakir Husain Institute of Islamic Studies at 11 AM on October 30, 2013.

As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, a performance of "Sufiy ana Kalam & Ghazals" by Vidya Shah will be held at Dr. M. A. Ansari Auditoruim, Jamia Millia Islamia at 7 PM on October 30, 2013.

On October 31, 2013, a One-day National Interf aith Colloquium on "Interfaith Dialogue: Towards a Better Society" will be organized from 10.00 AM onwards on October 31, 2013 by the Department of Islamic Studies at FTK-Centre for Information Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia.

The Foundation Day celebrations will come to an end with Hakim Ajmal Khan Memorial Lecture on "Usage of Jamia's Talent in Facing Challenges of 21st Century" which will be held at 2 PM on October 31, 2013 at Tagore Hall, Administrative Block, Jamia Millia Islamia.

Jamia Millia Islamia, an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920 became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988.

The story of its growth from a small institution in the pre-independence India to a central university located in New Delhi—offering integrated education from nursery to research in specialized areas—is a saga of dedication, conviction and vision of the people who worked against all odds and saw it growing step by step.
