First metro train for Hyderabad rolls out of Korean factory

First metro train for Hyderabad Metro Rail project has rolled out of Hyundai-Rotem Factory at Changwon in Korea and the same will arrive here next month.

Y.M. Deosthalee, chairman, L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (LTMRHL), V.B. Gadgil, chief executive and managing director, LTMRHL attended the ceremony along with the representatives of Hyundai Rotem Factory and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO), said a LTMRHL statement here Thursday.

"It is indeed a historic moment and we are proud to see the train (Rolling Stock) coming to Hyderabad ahead of the scheduled date, which is a benchmark and a trendsetter," said Deosthalee.

The shipment of the first train (three cars) reach Hyderabad by third week of May.

Gadgil said the people of Hyderabad will have a glimpse of their dream train when the trail run for commercial operations will commence in June this year between Nagole and Mettuguda.

The commercial operations on eight km long stretch is scheduled to start in March next year.

The company officials had earlier announced that all 21 coaches or cars required for running seven trains on the stretch will be available before the end of current year.

The 72-km-long elevated metro rail project, being built at a cost of Rs.14,132 crore project, is one of the biggest projects in the world in public private partnership (PPP) model.

LTMRHL has ordered 171 coaches for the project, which comprises three corridors. To start with, it plans to run three-car trains and as the ridership improves, it will be turned into six-car trains.
