London: Zayn Malik, the 21-year-old One Direction star, has been bombarded with death threats after he shared #FreePalestine hashtag on social networking site Twitter.
The popular singer shared the #FreePalestine hashtag with his 13million followers, which quickly clocked up 130,000 retweets.
Moments after it was posted, Israeli fans began blasting the star, telling him to "kill himself" and threatening: "Let me kill you."
One wrote: "Zayn should say what he said I mean if we're such a terrorists like he said why wouldn't we kill him for saying that huh @zaynmalik [sic]."
Others are vowing he has now lost all his fans from Israel.
"U have fans in #Israel. It broke me that one of my idols wand me to die @benwinstone @harry_styles @onedirection [sic]."
Zain Javadd "Zayn" Malik, is from Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. His father, Yaser Malik, is British Pakistani, and his mother, Tricia (née Brannan) Malik, is of Irish and English descent.
Malik is a Muslim, and once affirmed that by tweeting "La ila ha ill lalla ho muhammed door rasoolalah" (declaration of faith, meaning: "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah").
In June 2012, Malik's approach to Islam was criticised by blogger Debbie Schlussel, who accused him of advertising Islam to young fans; at the same time, he was criticised, on Twitter, by conservative Muslims, for not taking Islamic doctrine seriously enough.
