Mumbai: Advocate Shahid Ali, President of United Muslims Front, has called for action against a little known TV channel for inciting violence, and media trials of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) President and Hyderaba MP Asaduddin Owaisi, and his younger brother and Telangana MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.
In a letter written to President of India Pranab Mukherji with copies sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and others, Shahid Ali accused the channel of hurling abuses against the Owaisi brothers, hurting sentiments of the minorities, and spreading hatred and enmity in the name of religion, language and region.
"For last couple of days the TV Channel has been broadcasting special programme on daily basis, wherein, it has been conducting 'Media Trial' of Akbaruddin and Asaduddin Owaisi", Advocate Shahid said in his petition.
"Things did not end here. While conducting the media trial, the anchor of the programme has been taking calls of viewers and flashes messages with abuses and deadly threats against Owaisi brothers and Muslims of India", he added.
He also alleged that due to the provocation by the TV Channel, some activists allegedly associated with Hindutva organisations, attacked and vandalised the official residence of Asaduddin Owaisi in New Delhi.
"The instigation of the channel by virtue of its special programme has resulted in an attack on the residence of Hon'ble member of Parliament. Therefore, it is crystal clear that the channel and its other responsible officials including the owner, managing director, anchor etc deserve to be arrested after registration of an appropriate case and in these circumstances. The channel also deserves to be banned in India with immediate effect", he said.
Asaduddin Owaisi confirmed the attack on his house Sunday. He said that some 20 Hindu Sena Youth came Sunday with TV media crews, and damaged his name plate and blackened his party board and went away.
