Shoaib Iqbal of Cong leads in Matia Mahal assembly seats

Five-time MLA from Matia Mahal assembly seat in Delhi, Shoaib Iqbal is leading, initial trends available at 08:45 a.m. showed. Shoaib is contesting the 2015 election on Congress tikcket.

Shoaib Iqbal, who was earlier with Janata Dal, JD(S), Lok Janshakti Party and JD (U) again in 2013 had joined the Congress ahead of the 2015 assembly elections.

Asim Ahmad Khan is the AAP candidate from the constituency.

Interestingly, Iqbal was earlier in talks with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehdaul Muslimeen (MIM) including party chief Asaduddin Owaisi to help open the MIM unit and streghen it in Delhi. But, he changes his mind after the MIM decided not to contest the Delhi polls.

Counting of votes in the assembly elections to Delhi began at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Initial results available at 08:45 a.m. showed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was predicted to sweep the polls by all exit polls, is leading on 21 seats whereas the Bharti Janata Party (BJP) is leadeing on 11 seats.

Congress is leading on 05 seats, according to initial trends.

A total of 673 candidates are in the fray for 70 assembly seats.
