Kolkata: Proving once again that Hijab is not an obstacle for women, a Kolkata Muslim girl, who faced the interview wearing Hijab, despite an advice by a friend not to do so, topped the 2014 Judicial Service Examinations of West Bengal the results of which were declared Wednesday.
Arshi Hasmat, the topper of this year's WB Judicial Service Examinations, says that after clearing the entrance examination as she went for the interview, a male candidate advised her to take off her scarf as this may not reflect well on the interviewing panel and she may be disqualified. She was, however, prepared to face the interview in the dress she was comfortable, according to TCN.
Arshi Hasmat is only second Muslim to top the coveted test in recent years. In 2008, Bushra Adil had topped the same examination.
Besides Arshi, 18 other Muslims, including six female candidates, have also cleared the coveted exam.
An eloquent orator and budding poet, Arshi says she answered confidently all the questions that seemed to have impressed the panellist.
Arshi's elder sister had also qualified the same judiciary examination few years ago and is serving as a Judge in the West Bengal Judges Court.
