New Delhi: Dr Seema, Sonia Begum and Wajeda Khanum are among the 10 All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidates who have filed their nomination papers on Monday to contest the Muncipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections scheduled to be held on April 23.
While Dr Seema has been fielded from Maujpur Ward No. 40 E of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, Sonia Begum has been fielded from Nithari Ward No 40 N of North Delhi Municipal Corporation and Wajeda Khanum has been finalised to contest from Subhashnagar (Subhash Mohalla) Ward No. 48 E of East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Other women who have been fielded by Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM in Delhi MCD elections are Mrs Rajkumari and Nazma Khatoon. Rajukari will contest from Sundarnagr Ward No. 33 E of East Delhi Municipal Corporation and Nazma Khatoon will contest from Mustafabad Ward No. 58 of East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Elsewhere in the city, Haji Abdul Hannan has been fielded from Shastri Park Ward No. 25 E of East Delhi Municipal Corporation, Mirza Shakeel Beg has been fielded from Chauhan Banger Ward No. 41 E of East Delhi Municipal Corporation and Fakhruddin Ansari will contest from Nehru Vihar Ward No. 59 E of East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Arif Saifi and Shah Alam have been fielded in South Delhi Municipal Corporation elections in Abul Fazal Encalve Ward No. 102 S and Zakir Nagar Ward No. 100 S.
Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Chief and Hyderabad MP has earlier said the party will contest in 50 wards of Delhi. Later he was reported to have said the party will contest on just 05 seats. However after filing of nominations ended on Monday, AIMIM Delhi Chied Irfanullah Khan said 10 candidates of the party will contest the elections.
"We will contest in 10 wards of Delhi and we will contest the elections to win", he said while talking to ummid.com.
He also said that AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi, his younger brother Akbaruddin Owaisi and other senior party leaders will campaign in Delhi.
This is the first time the AIMIM is contesting local elections in Delhi.
Interestingly most of the wards where the AIMIM has fielded its candidates sizeable number of Muslim voters and this time the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) too has given party tickets to Muslims in some of these wards.
The other candidates in fray in these wards have been fielded by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress.
There are a total of 272 wards in the three Delhi Municipal Corporations, 104 each in South and North Delhi municipal corporations and 64 in the East Delhi municipal corporation.
