Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh): Miscreants attacked a Masjid in a village in Andhra Pradesh late on Thursday and killed the Muazzin - a person who gives a call for daily prayers.
Noorani Masjid in Talacheru Village of Rajahmundry was attacked and its muazzin, Mohammed Farooq (60), a native of Bihar was killed, according to Siasat News.
The report says the attackers also desecrated the Quran. Burnt pieces of cigarettes and beedis were also found in the masjid.
The dead body of the victim was shifted to a hospital for postmortem.
According to the local residents this kind of incident took place for the first time in Rajahmundry. Police sought 48 hours to search for the attackers. The adjoining areas of Rajahmundry became tense.
Rajahmundry is a city on the eastern banks of Godavari River and is located some 430 kms from Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the Bhimavaram Muslim Committee organised a protest rally on Friday against the murder of Muazzin Mohammed Farooq.
