Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for skipping Palestine while visiting Israel.
"Despite having relation with Israel, India has always stood firmly with the Palestinian people and their cause.
"It appears that India's stand on Palestine is diluted under the present government", he said.
He said by not including in his tour plan a visit to Palestine, Modi is strengthening illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
It is customary for the world leaders to visit Israel and Palestine both whenever they are on foreign tour in the region.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee visited Israel and Palestine both and also the Pope Francis. While Pranab Muklherjee visited the two countries in October 2015, Pope Francis visited in May 2014.
Prime Minister Modi will be visiting Israel on 4-6 July, 2017. He will also be visiting Hamburg in Germany on 6-8 July, 2017 to attend 12th G-20 Summit.
In a series of Facebook posts from his account, Modi said:
“I will be visiting Israel on 4-6 July, 2017 upon invitation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"As the first Indian Prime Minister to do so, I am greatly looking forward to this unprecedented visit that will bring our two countries and people closer. This year, India and Israel are marking 25 years of our diplomatic relations", Modi said.
