
New Delhi: The BJP-led NDA government in New Dehi is examining a request by the Uttar Pradesh government to rename the Mughalsarai Railway Station after RSS ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
"We have received a request for the renaming of the railway station. The request is under process," a home ministry spokesperson said.
Mughalsarai is one of the busiest stations for trains bound for eastern and northeastern regions. It is the fourth busiest railway junction in India and also contains the largest railway marshaling yard in Asia.
The RSS ideologue had died under mysterious circumstances at Mughalsarai station while travelling in a train on February 11, 1968, according to PTI.
The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday had in the month of June decided to name the Mughalsarai Railway Station after Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.
A no objection certificate is required from the home ministry for renaming a railway station.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is celebrating the birth centenary of Upadhyaya and will be holding a major event on September 25.
The Uttar Pradesh cabinet also decided to establish Deendayal Research Foundations at all state universities and to institute prizes in his name for meritorious students.
