NEET 2017 Dress Code

Four women teachers were on Tuesday suspended pending inquiry for allegedly forcing students to take off their clothes, including innerwear, as part of strict measures to stop cheating in a national medical entrance examination on Sunday.

Jamaluddin K, the principal of TISK English Medium school, one of the centres where the National Eligibility- cum-Entrance Test was held in Kannur district, told PTI that four women teachers have been suspended pending inquiry though he is yet to receive any complaint.

A day before on Monday, Kerala Women's Commission ordered a probe while Kannur District Police Chief G Siva Vikaram said a case would be registered if the parents or the girl filed a complaint. But, CPI (M) and Congress demanded more to check "Take off your bra" incident before NEET 2017 held on Sunday.

A female student had on Sunday complained that she was asked to remove her innerwear before entering NEET exam centre, the issue found echo in the state assembly with Education Minister C Raveendranath saying the government would look into the matter.

However, CPI (M) MP P K Sreemathi demanded that the authorities should be held responsible if the girl failed to qualify as she had been "mentally harassed".

Sudheeran, former state unit chief of the Congress, demanded a government probe.

"The ordeal (of the girl) was cruel and a blot on the state," he said.

More than a million, about 11 lakh students, on Sunday May 7 appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2017 - a mandatory exam for admission to various MBBS and BDS courses, held at 1972 centres in 103 cities across India under strict dress code, which students at some places moaned was "humiliating".

NEET 2017 was conducted in 10 different languages, compared to 08 last year. Students wrote the test in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Oriya and Kannada. The last two languages were added this year.

The NEET 2017 consisted of 180 questions with a total of 720 marks. This included 45 questions from Physics and Chemistry and 90 questions from Biology. Each question was of objective type with four choices.

Experts have varrying opinions about the exams - with some saying the NEET 2017 papers were lenghty and bit difficult and others of the view that they were of moderate level though slightly tougher as compared to last year.

It is also reported by the experts that the weightage of questions in Physics was slightly imbalanced, with 24 and 21 questions being based on class 11 and class 12 curriculum respectively.

The Physics paper had 19 questions from Mechanics, 05 from Thermodynamics and Kinetic Theory, 09 from Electrodynamics, 05 from Optics and Wave Optics and 07 from Modern Physics, according to Rajshekhar Ratrey, VP Educational Content,

Some students said overall questions of Physics and Chemistry were above average, with a mix of easy, moderate and difficult questions whereas those of Biology paper questions were of average level.

Many questions in Chemistry were conceptualised and application-based. The paper had 12 questions from Physical Chemistry, 14 from Organic Chemistry, 12 from Inorganic Chemistry and 4 questions from General Chemistry. It was also observed in Set R, question number 87 didn't have any correct option.

The weightage of questions in Biology was balanced, with 44 and 46 questions from class 11 and class 12 respectively. The paper had 11 questions from reproduction, 15 from genetics and evolution, 7 from biology and human welfare, 4 from biotechnology, 9 from ecology, 11 from diversity in living organisms, 7 from structural organisation in plants and animals, 7 from cell structure and function, 6 from plant physiology and 13 from human physiology, according to Rajshekhar Ratrey.

"The cut-off for general category would be between 380 and 410," Rajshekhar Ratrey is quoted as saying in media reports.

The NEET 2017 was held under strict dress code. But, at some places female students complained that they were asked to remove their upper innerwear before entering the examination hall.

The NEET 2017 results are expected to be declared on June 07, as per the NEET 2017 datesheet. Before that the NEET 2017 official Answer Keys and OMR Sheets of the students will be made available on the NEET website.

There have also been attempts by some people to leak the NEET 2017 question papers. According to reports, police have arrested at least five people in Patna and Jaipur for trying to leak the NEET papers. Some arrests have also been made in Goa.
