Palestinian Flag at Salvadoran Parliament

San Salvador:
The Palestinian flag was raised Thursday at the seat of the Salvadoran Parliament for the first time in the history of relations between the State of Palestine and the Republic of El Salvador.

The flag-raising was accompanied by the Palestinian national anthem.

Palestinian Ambassador Mohamed Amr took the flag to the main parliamentary podium and handed it to Parliament Speaker Guillermo Gallegos, who in turn took part in its hoisting alongside the flags of other countries that have diplomatic ties with El Salvador.

After a special ceremony for the State of Palestine, Ambassador Amr was invited to address the 84-member parliament. He stressed the importance of this event, which took place for the first time in the history of El Salvador-Palestine ties, and promised to further develop and enhance these relations.

In his speech to the Salvadoran parliament, the ambassador also reviewed the current political situation and the developments of the Palestinian issue at all levels.

For his part, Parliament Speaker Gallegos spoke of El Salvador's support for the Palestinian cause and finding a just solution based on ending the occupation and stopping the suffering of the Palestinians, as well as the establishment of the State of Palestine on the basis of international legitimacy and the right to self-determination.
