Salman Khan leads the list of top 10 Muslims on social media for 2018

Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan leads the list of top 10 Muslims on Social Media for the year 2018, according to The Muslim 500.

The Muslim 500, an annual publication ranking influential Muslims since 2009, in its list has ranked Salman Khan on top of the list followed by English singer and songwriter Zayn Malik and German footballer Mesut Özil.

Other Bollywood stars Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan have been respectively ranked on the 4th and 10th positions.

Music composer A.R. Rahman has been ranked No. 8.

Others in the list of top 10 are: Saudi author and scholar Mohammad al-Arefe ranked 5, Egyptian Islamic preacher Mustafa Hosny ranked 6, Saudi Arabian activist Ahmad Al-Shugairi ranked 7 and Egyptian Muslim activist Amr Khaled is ranked 9 by The Muslim 500.

Beginning with this year's edition, The Muslim 500 has also announced a Muslim Man of the Year and a Muslim Woman of the Year.

The Woman of the Year is Nawal al-Soufi. Nawal was born in Morocco and raised in Catania, Italy. She is a known to those Syrians who have fled the horrors of war and other highly oppressive circumstances - often in the most difficult and dangerous situations as “The Angel of Refugees.” It the past few years it is estimated she has helped save the lives of 200,000 Syrian refugees.

The Muslim 500 Man of the Year is Sadiq Khan. He was elected Mayor of London in May 2016. At the time, Sadiq was a Labour Party MP representing the diverse neighborhood of Tooting. Khan is the 46 year old son of Pakistani immigrants and was born in Tooting, where he has lived his entire life.

Not only is he the first Muslim mayor of a major European capital, but in his successful campaign for mayor he took 57 percent of the vote which totalled 1,310,143 voters giving him the largest personal mandate of any politician in UK history. He pledged to be the mayor for all Londoners.

The Muslim 500 list of the 50 Most Influential Muslims around the world is led by Grand Sheikh of the Al-Azhar University Professor Dr Sheikh Ahmad Muhammad Al-Tayyeb, followed by King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia and King of Jordan Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein.
