Patna: Senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday slammed the Modi government for granting permission to Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to defend party president Amit Shah's son Jay Shah in court.
Sinha also criticised the way Railway Minister Piyush Goyal called a press conference to clear allegations against Jay Shah.
"Producing senior ministers to defend Amit Shah's son and farming out a top government lawyer to represent Jay Shah in court are moves that clearly indicate serious lapses on the part of BJP", he said in Patna.
Amit Shah's son Jay Shah is facing media heat after news portal The Wire claimed his business saw 16000 percent growth after Modi became prime minister of India. Jay Shah rejected the report and have also file 100 crore defamation suit against the news portal, its editors and the reporter.
"The way the loan was given to Jai Shah by the Power Ministry and the way (minister) Piyush Goyal defended him, it gives the impression that there's something wrong," Sinha said.
"Even Additional Solicitor General (Tushar Mehta) representing a private individual in court is something that never happened before," he said.
The Wire had earlier claimed that Mehta was granted permission to defend Jay Shah on October 06 - two days before its report was published online.
Yashwant Sinha had a fortnight ago slammed the Modi government over its inability to properly handle the economy and maintain the growth.
