The world is growing towards new development every second, but the hustle bustle of life has left some places of peace unchanged. One of such places is in the middle of a crowded area of one of the most populated cities. I came across it and no wonder; I fell in love with it, instantly.

Jama Masjid of New Delhi felt like a fortress to me, protecting the people inside from the chaos of outside its walls. The historic mosque, of course, like many other monuments by Mughals, is a tourist spot and receive numerous people on daily basis. But, what is the most beautiful thing about this place, is the aura that it holds. From the time of sunrise till the sun sets, I saw so many different colours of this place that I can’t decide which one is my favourite.

Shuttering of camera, guides talking about the monument, there are so many voices. Yet all become distant somehow and there is that stillness, peace, inviting to stay. The world seems to stop here, go still in admiration of the beauty of the place and though there is nothing modern about it, the history it holds is a beauty in itself. The three gates from different three directions, hauz in the middle reflecting the sky above, seems something otherworldly.

The religion of Islam asks the followers to cover themselves and so the one who enters a masjid must do the same. Tourists of different countries are thus, asked to put coveralls before they enter the place that is, if one is in shorts. Barefooted, covered, it is a sight to behold the people of different countries and different ideas respecting a common ground to admire the beauty built years ago.

“It is nothing that we have to wear these if it means we can look around the place like this,” says Maria, a young tourist visiting from Serbia.

The gates, hauz, the minarets, the masjid, the whole place is something I can’t stop talking about. The places it overlook, the peace is has to offer, the beauty of its building, the cool water of hauz; one can simply go on and on about the beauty of Jama Masjid of New Delhi.
