Eid al Adha 2019 Moon Announcement Latest Update: The Saudi Supreme Court confirmed Thursday that the crescent moon of Dhu Al-Hijjah had been sighted.
"Hajj will therefore begin on Friday August 9, and pilgrims will spend the day on the plains of Mount Arafat on Saturday August 10, and Eid Al-Adha will take place on Sunday August 11, 2019", Saudi Supreme Court said.
The Eid Al Adha holiday will last for 11 days in Saudi this year.
08:00 pm (Makkah Time): Eid al Adha will be celebrated on Sunday August 11, 2019 whereas Youme Arafat (also known as Youme Arafah), will be on Saturday August 10, 2019, local media reported claiming the Dhul Hijjah moon is sighted in Saudi Arabia today on Thursday August 01, corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1440 AH.
A formal announcement by Saudi Supreme Court is likely any moment.
The crescent was reportedly seen from Saudi Arabia's Tumair observatory. The sighting of the moon indicates that Friday, August 2, would be Zul Hijjah 1, Khaleej Times reported.
07:30 pm (Makkah Time): The Royal Court in Saudi Arabia and moon sighting committees in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and other Gulf States have begun their scheduled meetings after Maghrib prayers today i.e. Thursday August 01, 2019, corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1440 AH.
The meetings in the respective countries is being held to ascertain if the new moon of the holy month of Dhul Hijjah (also pronounced Zul Hijja) is seen anywhere in the region.

05:00 pm (Makkah Time): The Royal Court in Saudi Arabia and moon sighting committees in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and other Gulf States have scheduled a meeting shortly after Maghrib prayers today i.e. Thursday August 01, 2019, corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1440 AH.
The meetings in the respective countries will be held to decide if the new moon of the holy month of Dhul Hijjah (also pronounced Zul Hijja) is seen anywhere in the region. Eid al Adha is celebrated on 10th of Dhul Hijjah and the climax of Haj ritual - Youme Arafah, the standing on the Plains of Arafat is held on a day before i.e. on 9th of Dhul Hijjah.

12:45 pm (Makkah Time): The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia and the moon sighting committees in United Arab Emirate (UAE), Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and other Arab states have called upon the Muslims to witness Crescent - the new moon of the Holy month of Dhul Hijjah (also pronounced Zul Hijjah), today on Thursday August 01, 2019 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1440 AH to decide when Eid al Adha will be celebrated this year.
Eid al Adha - second holiest festival of Muslims around the world also coincides with annual Hajj ritual i.e. pilgrimage to Makkah. The Dhul Hijjah moon if sighted today will also decide when Hajj 2019 i.e. Youm e Arafat 2019 (Youme Arafah) will be obsereved.
Youm e Arafat 2019 (Youme Arafah) is 9th day of Dhul Hijjah when more than 2.5 million Muslims from across the world gather on the plains of Mount Arafat to perform Hajj.
On the other hand, Eid al Adha (also known as Bakra Eid, Eid uz Zuha in India and around), is celebrated all across the world on 10th of Dhul Hijjah - the month revered as one of the holiest months is the Islamic calendar.
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia in a statement issued on Wednesday asked the Muslims to sight the Crescent Moon by the naked eyes or binoculars and "report and register his or her testimony to the nearest court” or report to the nearest center that can help him/her reach the nearest court.
"If the new moon is sighted today i.e. August 01, 2019 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1440 AH, that means the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah has begun, and the first day of Eid al Adha will be celebrated on August 11, 2019", the statement issued by the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia read.
"Accordingly, Youm e Arafat 2019 (Youme Arafah) which falls on 9th of Dhul Hijjah will be on August 10, 2019", it said.
"If there is no new moon today, Eid al Adha festivities will begin on August 12, 2019, as the holiday is always celebrated on the 10th day of that Islamic month and Youm e Arafat 2019 (Youme Arafah) will be on August 11, 2019", the statement added.
Traditionally, the Eid al Adha festival lasts for four days but public holidays vary from country to country.
Muslims in Palestine, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Russia, United States, Britain and other countries will also decide today when Eid al Adha 2019 will be celebrated in these countries.
Haj and Eid al Adha ( also known as Bakra Eid, Eid ul Azha and Eid uz Zuha in the Indian subcontinent) are celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices made by Prophet Ibrahim, his noble wife Hager and their son Prophet Ismael (peace be upon all of them).
In India, Pakistan, Bangaldesh, Sri Lanka and other South Asian countries the Moon Sighting Committees, Hilal Committees and Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet tomorrow i.e. Friday August 02, 2019 to decide on the sighting of the Dhul Hajjah moon.
Decision on Muslim festivals Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha is based on lunar system. As per this system, the first day of a new month is decided if moon is sighted on 29th day of the preceding month. In case the moon is not sighted, the month is counted for whole of 30 days.
