Malegaon: Mufti Mohammed Ismail Qasmi, former MLA of Malegaon Centre and ex-President NCP Malegaon Unit, Thursday joined Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

Mufti Ismail joined AIMIM in the presence of Imtiyaz Jaleel. Aurangabad MP Imtiyaz Jaleel is President of AIMIM Maharashtra.

26 members of Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have also joined the AIMIM along with Mufti Ismail.

Mufti Ismail had earlier resigned as Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President alleging the party of being ant-Muslim and succumbing to the pressure of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Mufti Ismail was especially unhappy over absence of NCP MPs from the Rajya Sabha during the vote on Triple Talaq bill.

Mufti Ismail will most likely be the AIMIM candidate from Malegaon Centre assembly seat in the 2019 Maharashtra state elections due in the month of October.

If given the AIMIM ticket, Mufti Ismail will contest against sitting MLA of the Congress party Asif Shaikh.

Meanwhile, an old video of Mufti Ismail's speech is also being shared on social media along with the report of his joining the AIMIM. In the video, Mufti Ismail can be heard blaming the AIMIM of being BJP agent.

In the video, Mufti Ismail also called AIMIM a "Vote Katwa" party which fields candidates in Muslim dominated areas only to divide the Muslim and secular votes.
