Srinagar (Kashmir): Breast carcinoma is one of the most commonly occurring cancer in women and second most cancer overall globally. It accounts for 28% of cancer diagnosis in women. Breast cancer has ranked no one cancer among Indian females. There were over two million new cases of Breast cancer in 2018.

Symptoms of Breast Carcinoma include a lump or thickening of the breast and changes to the skin or the nipple. Risk factors can be genetic, dense breast, radiation therapy, hormone replacement therapy but some lifestyle factors such as alcohol intake make it more likely to happen.

In Allopathic system of medicine, wide range of treatment is available including surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. These treatments account for a huge amount of money and side effects due to which a lot of people are not able to afford the cost and adverse effects of these therapies.

In this regard a case study was conducted at Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Kashmir University Srinagar in 2018. In which a female patient who was suffering from breast carcinoma from last one year was given fixed dose of formulation of single drugs (Mufradat) as under:

1. Quste Sheerin (Saussurea lappa) -80 gms

4. Methi (Trigonella Fenum) - 5gm
5. Tukhme Kasni (Seeds of Cichorium intibus) -15gms

All these drugs were powdered and given to the patient twice a day for one month. After one month of treatment it was seen that metastasis of breast cancer was significantly controlled. In this context, we are doing more clinical trials on large sample size so that the scientific validity of such regimens is thoroughly established.
