Bhubaneshwar: Board of Secondary Education Odisha (BSEO) on Wednesday cancelled the Odisha Teachers' Eligibility Test (OTET) after questions paper was leaked and circulated on different social media platforms.
The Odisha (OTET 2019) teachers recruitment exam is conducted to hire teachers of Class 1st to Class 8th. The examination is held in offline mode in two sets. OTET Paper I is for the recruitment for class 1 to class 5 teachers whereas OTET Paper II is for recruitment for Class 6 to Class 8.
The OTET question paper of first sitting went viral on the social media while the exam was going on Wednesday.
“This was an unfortunate incident. We were forced to cancel the exams of both the sittings after the question paper leak. We have ordered a probe into the incident. The new dates of reexamination will be announced soon,” said Board of Secondary Education (BSEO) president Jahan Ara Begum.
A notice issued by Board of Secondary Education (BSE) then ordered the exam centres to postpone the OTET paper 2 second sitting exam until further notification.
"As per the instruction of Board of Secondary Education Cuttack, the 2nd sitting OTET Exam Paper II Examination is hereby held up as until further notification (sic)", a notice issued by Shakuntla Girls' High School, Sunhat, Dist Balasore, said.
A staggering 1.7 lakh aspiring teachers were scheduled to appear for the OTET exam in 250 examination centres across the state.
The Board of Secondary Education, Odisha is a Body Corporate constituted under the Odisha Secondary Education Act, 1953. It regulates, controls and developes Secondary Education in the State of Odisha.
It Provides varied courses in order to equip students for different occupations, to prepare them for University education and to equip them for various cultural purposes. It examines those who have completed a prescribed course of study and awards certificates to the successful candidates. Besides, it does all other things which are incidental to the above.
