Srinagar: Former IAS officer Shah Faesal of Kashmir cadre on Sunday joined the "Nobel Peace Prize for Imran Khan" chorus, justifying his support to the demand with a reason.
“A Nobel Peace Prize to @ImranKhanPTI could drastically change the way Pakistan operates in the South Asia region. IK has already raised the bar for leadership in the region, and the Prize could encourage him to further nurture the India-Pak relationship. He deserves the prize”, Shah Faesal wrote on Twitter.
Shah Faesal, who came to limelight after he topped India's top civil services exam conducted by UPSC in 2010, had quit as an IAS officer to join politics. He had in the last week announced formation of his own political party.
Shah Faesal's tweet supporting the demand to confer Nobel Peace Prize on Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan came a day after a motion was submitted in Pakistan’s National Assembly Secretariat with a similar demand.
The motion, submitted by Pakistan’s Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, said Imran Khan deserves Nobel Peace for his role in “de-escalating” tensions between India and Pakistan.
Imran Khan is praised for his unilateral decision to release the Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Abhinandan. Abhinandan was captured by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Thursday after it shot down India's MiG 21 during an aerial engagement.
India and Pakistan in the last week claimed shooting down fighter jets of each other following the escalation of tension between the two countries after 45 Indian CRPF troopers were killed in a terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pulwama district on February 14, 2019.
The motion in Pakistan’s National Assembly read that “Imran Khan expertly diverted the situation towards peace” and therefore he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. On Friday, #NobelPeacePrizeForImranKhan was the top trend on Twitter.
An online petition is also filed moving the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the nomination of Khan for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 for "his peace efforts and dialogues in the Asian region on diverse conflicts (Pakistan-India, Afghanistan-US, Middle East).
"His (Khan's) contributions deserve the international recognition with the Nobel, his aims of ensuring lasting peace in the region and discouraging revival of militarism should be recognized and greatly appreciated," read the online petition on website Change.org.
