New Delhi: Working together for unity between Hindus and Muslims was on top of the agenda when RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and Jamiat e Ulama President Syed Arshad Madani met in New Delhi on Friday.
"RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat recognised the fact that the survival and progress of the country is not possible without unity between Hindus and Muslims", Arshad Madani said while talking to reporters after meeting the RSS Chief at its headquarters in New Delhi.
Arshad Madani said the Jamiat e Ulama had received emissaries from the RSS to work together for peace and progress of the country.
"After receiving the RSS message, we decided to reach out and meet the RSS Chief instead of inviting him", he said.
"This has always been the practice of Jamiat. Whenever and whoever called us to work for the country, we went an extra mile for such a cause", he added.
He said he has urged the RSS Chief to make it a point to emphasis on Hindu-Muslim unity in its meeting.
"Jamiat e Ulama has always publicly stood for the unity between Hindus and Muslims. It is also regularly pushing it in its sessions and at different levels. The RSS should also do the same", he said.
Arshad Madani also said that he raised the issue of mob lynching and rising hatred among the communities.
"At the time of rampant hatred, we should all come together and work for the country. We should all keep aside our personal agenda and work for the common cause of saving this country from hatred and intolerance", he said.
Jamiat e Ulema Working Committee had in its recent meeting demanded from Modi government to enact a law against mob lynching.
Jamiat e Ulama is the largest representative body of Muslims in India. On the other hand, the ruling BJP is political wing of RSS - the most influential organisation in the country.
