Mumbai: Heavy rains have been forecast for Mumbai, Thane and other parts of the Konkan, officials said here on Thursday.
As a precautionery measure Education Minister Ashish Shelar declared a holiday for all schools and junior colleges in Mumbai and surroundings.
In an early morning tweet, he said district collectors elsewhere can take a call depending on the local situation.
Mumbai and the coastal Konkan districts have been lashed by a fresh spell of rain since the past three days and the India Meteorological Department has predicted a wet week for the region.
This is the third time in this season when schools and colleges in Mumbai are shut, and the city has come to standstill due to rains.
