Mumbai: A large number of Chartered Accountants (CAs) and Assessees on Thursday took on Twitter to demand from the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to extend the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) with Tax Audit Reports for the Financial Year 2018-19 i.e. Assessment Year (2019-20).
Tax payers who are required to submit IT Returns with Tax Audit Report include corporates, individuals carrying on any business with total sales or gross receipts exceeding Rs 1 crore, and those providing any professional services with gross receipts exceeding Rs 50 lakh in a financial year.
"First time the country, Finance Ministry, CBDT and GST Council witnessing the Social Media Power of Chartered Accountants. This is a wake up call. Don't bend it until it breaks down", CA Dinesh Wadera (@dineshwadera) wrote on Twitter using hash tag #TaxAuditExtendToday and #FinanceMinisterMissing.

Under Section 44AB of the Income Tax Act, September 30 is the last date for filing of ITR with Tax Audit Report. However, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had extended the due date for the past 03 years.
