Mumbai: Taking a serious note of the mischief being played by some media houses, especially by spreading false news and communalising the Corono Virus cases, former AIMIM MLA from Byculla Waris Pathan has decided to take headon one particular channel India TV and its chairman Rajat Sharma.
In a notice issued to the channel and Rajat Sharma, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Maharashtra President Waris Pathan has asked for apology for what he said unnecessary linking of his name with the migrant workers' protest on April 14.
On April 14, a large crowd had gathered outside the Bandra railway station for catching trains to different locations in the country. They were all migrant workers and labourers who had stuck up in Mumbai since the lockdown.
In its prime time show at 9 pm on April 14, Rajat Sharma mentioned that it was becuse of Waris Pathan that the crowd had gathered at Bandra station.
Taking strong objection to what he said the "baseless charge made with a mischievous intent to malign his image", Waris Pathan issued a notice to the channel seeking apology.
In his notice, Waris Pathan contended that he had no role whatsoever with the crowd gathered at Bandra Railway station.
He said he had simply issued a tweet about the incident much after the crowd had gathered and when all media channels had shown the visuals live and was all over the social media platforms.
He also clarified that he was not even physically present at the spot and so there was no reason for India TV to have involved his name in the entire episode.
"The very fact the the channel went on air to defame him without corraborating facts speaks about the irresponsible act committed by the channel and aired by its senior most journalist Rajat Sharma", Pathan said.
"If the channel and Rajat Sharma fail to tender an apology during prime time bulletin I will go ahead with the defamation suit and will also file a criminal case", Pathan said.
Waris also took strong objection to what he said "another mischief and irresponsible stand" taken by the channel in trying to communilaise the crowd gathering by associating them with the Jama Masjid Bandra which incidentally happens to be just adjacent to the Bandra railway station.
"Linking the crowd with Bandra Jama Masjid speaks about the communal nature of the channel and its head Rajat Sharma", said Waris Pathan.
