Malegaon doctor couple on duty in Nampur tests Coronavirus positive

The doctor couple, known for their hard work and commitment towards their duties, came in contact with those working in Mumbai, Pune and other cities

Malegaon Coronavirus Latest Update: Two doctors from Malegaon, husband and wife, on duty at a government hospital in nearby Nampur have been tested positive for novel Coronavirus Tuesday. They have been quarantined at Jeevan Hospital near Manmad Chaufuly.

The doctor couple, known for their hard work and commitment towards their duties, came in contact with those working in Mumbai, Pune and other cities after they returned to Nampur following the lockdown.

"I was suffering from fever since last couple of weeks and was taking antibiotic drugs for that. However, I started coughing 2-3 days back. I went to Malegaon General Hospital for further check-up after it intensified", the doctor told ummid.com on phone.

"My samples were immediately sent for Coronavirus test. The report which came late in the evening Tuesday confirmed that I have been infected by the new virus", he added.

"Samples of my wife and mother were also sent for further check-up. While my mother is found negative, my wife, who is also a doctor and was with me in Nampur, tested positive for Coronavirus", he said.

The husband and wife doctors are Government Medical Officers.

The doctor while talking to ummid.com on phone said that a number of people started arriving in Nampur from Mumbai, Pune and other cities soon after the coronavirus lockdown was clamped.

"Since I was on duty at Nampur Primary Health Centre (PHC), everyone was brought there by local police officials for check-up. There was a huge rush of people and we did not have any means to take precautions", the doctor said, profusely coughing as he spoke on phone.

Coronavirus outbreak was first reported in Malegaon on April 9 when five local residents were tested positive for the deadly virus. Since then, the city has witessed an alarming surge in corona positive cases, besides 02 deaths.

There are conflicting reports of total number of active Coronavirus cases in Malegaon. However, confirmed reports from the Health Officials said as many as 32 people infected by the virus are under treatment.

Nashik District Collector and Chairman District Diasaster Management Authority Suraj Mandhare however said that the Coronavirus situation in Maleagon is under control as almost all the new positive cases are of those who were in contacts with those earlier declared Corona positive.
