Bidar: Karnataka police Saturday questioned about 60 students of Shaheen school in Bidar for about four hours in the case relating to a drama played against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
This is the third time the cops came to the Bidar school to question the school kids after the play video of which was posted on social media sites.
A "sedition" case was consequently filed against the school management following which the Karnataka police on Thursday arrested the headmistress of the school Fareeda Begum (52) and mother of one of the students Najmunnisa (26).
Police asked the students, all of whom were between 9 and 12 years age, if they watched the play and whether the school was spreading false information on CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), according to India Today.
Talking to The News Minute, Touseef Madikeri, who heads the school, said cops questioned the kids for about 04 hours.
“DySP Basaveshwara Hira and two other police officers came and questioned the children. They started at 12 pm and finished the interrogation at 4 pm,” he said.
Touseef said that the children were asked whether they watched the play and whether the school was “spreading false information” about CAA and NRC.
“They asked the children whether the school had taught them or coerced them into making statements against Prime Minister Modi. They answered whatever questions they knew,” Touseef added.
The case was against the management of Shaheen Group of Institutions for making its school children enact an anti-NRC skit, in which they used derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and officials.
According to the official, the children said: "If anybody comes asking for documents, beat them with the slippers."
