Hyderabad: Telangana State Hajj Committee has proposed to conduct Qurrah (draw of lots) for the selection of pilgrims for Haj today i.e. Saturday January 18, 2020.
Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali will inaugurate Qurrah (The Draw of Lots) for selection of Haj pilgrims for Haj 2020 on 18th January, 2020 at Haj House, Nampally. Haj Committee Chairman Mohammed Masiullah Khan and Minister for Minorities Mr. Koppla Ishwar will preside over the function scheduled on the day.
Telangana State Haj Committee Chairman Mohd Masiullah Khan informed that a total of 10,613 applications were received from Telangana State including 6,421 from Hyderabad alone. The total number of applications in the general category was 10.143. This year, a total number of 462 aspirants are categorised under reserve category who are above 70 years
Telangana State Haj Committee has started its preparations for Haj 2020 after the announcement of the Haj action plan by HCOM.
It may be noted that Telangana government represented by Mohammed Mahmood Ali had always lauded the work of the Telangana State Haj Committee(TSHC) in taking steps to improve the arrangements made by the Telangana State Haj Committee for the Haj pilgrims and offered to extend cooperation in improving the facilities further.
In 2019, HCOI has allotted a total Haj quota of 4,169 for the state of Telangana. Of the total, 484 seats under Reserved Category for 70-year-old or above age group pilgrims were selected automatically with no drawing lots. Every year, TSHC demands additional quota and this year too, the Telangana state is expecting their demands are to be met again. Last year, around 1,000 pilgrims were picked up from the waiting lists after Telangana was granted additional quota.
Telangana State Haj Committee will publish the result of Qurrah for Haj pilgrimage 2020, on its website plus HCOI web site too, sources clarified. Hence all eyes are fixed on January 4, 2020.
Meanwhile, reports coming from Maharashtra State Haj Committee, Uttar Pradesh Haj Commitee, Kerala State Haj Committee, Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee, Gujarat State Haj Committee, Karnataka Haj Committee and other states said they will complete the Haj Qurrah in the next few days - possibly before the end of the January second week.
The Haj Committee of India further said that it will finalise Haj Embarkation points in the first week of October 2019 and agreement with Airlines will be signed in the 2nd week of January 2020.
