Haroon Kareem Kerala SSLC 2020

Kerala SSLC Result 2020: In an exemplary display of success fighting against odds, Haroon Kareem, a visually impaired student from Malappuram cleared Kerala Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or Class 10 board examination 2020 scoring A Plus in all subjects.

Haroon Kareem is also Kerala's first student who used Computers to write the DHSE Class 10 SSLC exam. Visually impaired students normally write the exams with the help of a 'scribe' or 'interpreter'.

Kerala Education Department, also called as Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan, declared on its official website keralaresults.nic.in the result of Kerala Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or Class 10 board examination 2020 today i.e. Tuesday June 30, 2020.

A total of 41,906 students scored A+ in the SSLC result that was declared today. Visually impaired Haroon Kareem is one of them.

"I am thrilled ...so excited about my results. I have got A+ in all my exams, without any help from any scribe or anyone. I don't need to be dependent on anyone, with technology available. This is inclusiveness and schools can be regular, inclusive for all of us with this technology. With the software we can take exams like mathematics and anything else," Haroon Kareem told NDTV.

“This is a small beginning of a massive change. The visually impaired community should be brought to the mainstream, rather than being given a special status,” he is quoted by The Hindu as saying.

Haroon Kareem is 95% visually impaired and unstoppable. A student of Government Higher Secondary School, Mankada, Haroon bid adieu to Braille in Class VIII. He started taking class notes on his laptop, and pledged that he would attempt the SSLC exam on a computer without a scribe’s support. He did it by circumventing a lot of technical hurdles.

Meanwhile, congratulatory calls inundated Haroon’s home at Melattur in Malappuram district soon after Education Minister C. Raveendranath announced the SSLC results on Tuesday. Apart from Raveendranath, Minister for Higher Education K.T. Jaleel, Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan and a host of others called to greet him.
