New Delhi: A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a complaint at Kanpur Police Station seeking registration of FIR against Dr Aarti Lalchandani, Pricipal of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, who was seen spewing venom against Indian Muslims in a viral video.
Supreme Court lawyer Ali Zaidi, who has also filed the complaint in the state medical council, said he is determined to pursue the case against the doctor's bigotry.
Talking to media, Zaidi said he will file a complaint through Section 156(3) of CRPC if the Kanpur Police did not act on his complaint against Lalchandani.
In a viral video, Dr Aarti Lalchandani is heard calling the members of Tablighi Jamaat who became victim of Coronavirus as "terrorists".
"We should not say this, but they are terrorists. And we are providing them VIP treatment, providing them food... exhausting our resources on them," she allegedly said in the video clip, adding that the hospital was "wasting" PPE kits on the members of the Tablighi Jamaat.
Dr Aarti Lalchandani said that she did make the remarks in the initial days of the coronavirus outbreak, but claimed that the video clip was "tampered" with and that she did not refer to any community or target the Muslims as a whole.
Later on she also issued a statement saying sorry and apologising to "all Muslim brothers and sisters".
A number of activists however feel that mere apology will not be enough and some action is needed against her for making the insensitive remarks in testing time.
"If found guilty, the Principal should be immediately removed from the post and a FIR lodged against her," CPI (M) leader Subhashini Ali, who had earlier been an MP, said demanding a probe into the video clip by the district administration.
