Solar Eclipse June 21

New Delhi: The first Solar eclipse of 2020 will take place on Sunday June 21. It will be a partial eclipse but sky gazers in some Indian states, including Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, will be able to see an annular solar eclipse.

A solar eclipse occurs on a new moon day when it comes in between the earth and the sun and all the three objects are aligned.

About Annular Solar Eclipse

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the angular diameter of the moon falls short of that of the sun and it fails to cover up the latter completely. As a result a ring of the sun's disk remains visible around the moon. The sky gazers at some places will get an opportunity to observe the "ring of fire" during the phenomenon.

Few prominent places within this narrow annularity path are Dehradun, Kurukshetra, Chamoli, Joshimath, Sirsa, Suratgarh, etc.

Sunday's eclipse will be seen as a partial Solar eclipse in entire India where the obscuration of the Sun by the Moon at the time of greatest phase of the annular eclipse will be nearly 98.6 per cent.

Solar Eclipse June 2020 Time

The eclipse will begin around 10:00 am in Mumbai, with the Moon blocking the Sun’s upper side and will slowly cover the Sun. The peak of the Solar eclipse will be reached at 11:37 am and it will end at 1:27 pm Indian time.

According to the Nehru Planetarium, the eclipse will be first seen in Bhuj starting at 09:58 am and will be seen ending last in Dibrugarh at 02:29 pm.

Sunday's Solar eclipse is the last eclipse to be seen from India for the next 28 months. The next eclipse will be seen in India on October 25, 2022.

Eclipses are a scientific phenomenon. There are many myths and misconceptions associated with these events, but they have no basis. Islam has also rejected all the false theories associated with eclipses, saying they are signs of Allah, the Almighty.
