Kolkata: West Bengal Council for Higher Secondary Examinations (WBHSC) has decided to promote Class 11 students whose exams were suspended due to Coronavirus lockdown clamped in the country on March 24.

Asking schools to promote Class 11 students to Class 12th, WBHSC said marks of already completed examinations are to be sent in the format specified earlier by the Council and delivered as per the norms of the past year by June 22.

There were around one or two Class XI papers were pending when the lockdown was clamped. The WBHSC had earlier said that the three remaining board exams will be conducted in June. However, the board now asked schools and junior colleges to promote the students.

Around 11 lakh students from different districts of West Bengal appeared for the Class 11 board exams. The questions papers are set by the HS Council and assessment is done by the respective schools.

“The decision to promote all students to Class XII will not impact the quality of education. The remaining HS examinations are unlikely to be held before June 10, when the school reopens,” Council official said Times of India.

Earlier, a number of other state boards too had cancelled the pending board exams in the wake of Coronavirus epidemic.

Some of the universities have also cancelled the 1st and 2nd year exams and rescheduled the final year exams, mostly for July first week.
