Malegaon: Malegaon Municipal Commisioner (MMC) Trimbak Kasar has tested positive for the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), his office staff said.
Dr Sapana Thakare, Health Officer Malegaon, did not respond to phone calls. But, talking to ummid.com Kasar's office staff on the condition of anonymity said that his report is Covid positive but there is nothing to worry about.
"His report is in asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic category", he said.
"We will be sending his samples again after three days. We hope that everything will be all right", his office staff said.
Kasar was busy in a meeting with Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope and Agriculture Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse at Malegaon Government Rest House today afternoon when his test report confirming Covid infection was received.
Kasar immediately left the meeting venue.
Kasar had joined as Commissioner Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) on April 28, 2020 about 20 days after Coronavirus outbreak in the city. He was earlier posted in Amravati near Nagpur.
According to the civic body sources, Kasar contracted Covid-19 infection through one of his associates.
Kasar had joined as Commissioner Malegaon after Kishore Borode went on leave amidst Coronavirus outbreak in Malegaon. Soon after taking charge, he had taken action against some "inefficient" and "corrupt" civic body staffers.
Malegaon is 3rd worst corona-hit city in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune. The city has so far reported over 550 corona cases and more than 30 deaths, according to the local health department.
