Malegaon: As Malegaon battles mounting Covid-19 and lockdown deaths, a vicious campaign using fake videos is underway on the social media to claim that Muslims are flouting the lockdown rules and hence should be handed over to CRPF and military.
As part of this campaign, a video showing Muslims leaving a mosque is circulating on social media, especially among the users in Malegaon, Nashik, Dhule and around, to claim lockdown violation.
The video has also been sent to Prime Minister of India, Chief Minister Maharashtra and others claiming that members of the Muslim community are gathering at a mosque in Malegaon City amidst lockdown and flouting rules. On May 03, one Sachin Bhamare posted the video with the same claim on Twitter.

However, various fact check sites, including The Quint and Alt News, after analysing the video found it to be of Temkar Mohalla Masjid in Dongri, Mumbai. The analysis also showed that the video was recorded on March 23, 2020 - a day before the nationwide lockdown was announced.
Interestingly, the same video was earlier used to falsely claim that Muslims residing in Jamalpur area of Ahmedabad in Gujarat were flouting lockdown norms.
It was also found that Mumbai police had registered a case under CrPC Section 144 banning assembly of people in view of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic against some 100-150 people based on this video, according to a PTI report dated March 24, 2020.
As part of the vicious campaign to demand military, instead of medical experts to control mounting deaths in Malegaoon, a numer of other videos that have no relation with Malegaon are also being shared on social media.
Few such videos were deleted after some social media users tagged them and asked the Maharashtra police to take action against them for spreading fake misinformation.
Incidentally, the campaign seems to have started after Dr Subhash Bhamre of BJP and Member of Parliament representing Dhule-Malegaon in the Lok Sabha, issued a series of messages denouncing lockdown violation in Malegaon. He also demanded CRPF and Military iron hands to monitor lockdown in part of the City he is yet to visit ever since the Coronavirus Outbreak on April 8.
This is when local residents are expecting Dr Subhash Bhamre to fight with the government to get for Malegaon immediate medical enforcement and a team of specialist critical care doctors like the one sent to Ahmedabad.
