

Sharjah: In solidarity with the Palestinians brutally massacred by the Israeli Occupation Forces in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, the Sharjah Police has banned all celebrations and firework displays on 2024 New Year Eve.
The move is a “sincere expression” of solidarity with the people of Gaza where the relentless bombing by the Israeli Occupation police has claimed over 21,000 lives since Oct 7.
The police has appealed to all “institutions and individuals” to cooperate with it and adhere to the announcement, Khaleej Times reported citing a Facebook post by Sharjah Police.
In the announcement made on Facebook, the Sharjah Police warned that legal actions will be taken against those violating the ban.
Sharjah usually ushers in the New Year with fireworks lasting several minutes over Al Majaz Waterfront.
Multiple festivals and events, including Tanweer Sacred Music Festival, which was to be held in Sharjah’s Mleiha, the Culture Summit Abu Dhabi, and concerts at Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena have been either postponed or cancelled in the Emirate in a show of solidarity with Gaza, according to The National.
Earlier, Bethlehem – the birthplace of Jesus Christ in the Occupied Jerusalem, and a number of countries including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had cancelled Christmas festivities scheduled for December 25.
Israeli Occupation Army has waged a deadly war against the Palestinians in Gaza Strip and Occupied West Bank following the Operation Al Aqsa Flood launched by Hamas and other Resistance Groups on Oct 7, 2023.
According to the Health Ministry of Palestine, the death toll in Gaza since Oct 7 is more than 21,000 - over 80 per cent of them women and children, as on Dec 28, 2023.
The Ministry said at least 55, 240 civilians have been injured in round the clock shelling by the Israeli Occupation Forces and over 7,000 are missing.
Another 313 Palestinians have been killed in the Occupied West Bank, the Health Ministry said.
