New York: Hundreds carrying ‘dolls’ mourn Israeli massacre of Palestinian babies

New York: Hundreds of New Yorkers carrying ‘baby dolls’ Thursday December 28, 2023 participated in a silent march along Bryant Park to mourn the brutal killing of Palestinian babies at the hands of the Israeli Occupation Forces in the Gaza Strip.

Holding the banners that read “Every dead child is a loss for all”, the New Yorkers dressed in all black and carrying baby dolls wrapped in shrouds to represent dead Palestinian children demanded ceasefire and end to the ongoing war.

Thursday’s “Mourn with us” silent procession, organized by ‘Jewish Elders for Palestine’ was supported by a number of organisations.

“We are gathering at Bryant Park now to join fellow New Yorkers, led by Jewish elders, for a silent march to mourn the thousands of Palestinian children who have been killed in the past 3 months", Jews for Racial & Economic Justice wrote on social media platform X, tagging the images of the participants and using hash tags #CeasefireNow #SilentMarch.

Videos posted on social media show the mourners carrying bundles wrapped in white cloth silently heading to north on 6th Avenue from Bryant Park in Manhattan. They then systematically put the ‘baby dolls’ on the pavement to show solidarity with the Palestinian children.

Also seen in one of the images is a baby doll wrapped in a traditional Palestinian scarf or Keffiyeh – a symbol of Resistance.

A similar protest was organised on December 22, 2023 when a large crowd gathered on the steps of the New York Public Library (NYPL) in Bryant Park for the pro-Palestine rally organised by the labor unions and other worker groups to mourn the killings of civilians, including journalists, in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli Occupation Army.

More than 21,300 Palestinians, over 70 percent of them women and children, have been killed in the relentless bombing by the Israeli Occupation Forces that began following the Hamas’ Operation Al Aqsa Flood on Oct 7, 2023 launched in response to the continuous aggression by the Zionist regime in Israel and illegal settlers wreaking disturbances in the occupied Palestine territories.

In a similar vigil on December 20, 2023, the mourners in the Netherlands mobilised at the iconic Binnenrotte Square in Rotterdam over 8,000 pairs of shoes each symbolizing a Palestinian child killed by the Israeli Occupation Forces in Gaza.
