Aurangabad: At least six people have been killed in a massive fire which broke out in a gloves manufacturing factory in Waluj MIDC area of Aurangabad (Chhatrpati Sambhaji Nagar) in the intervening night of Dec 30 and 31, 2023.
The Aurangabad Fire Department officials talking to the media said they received a call at 02:15 am Sunday December 31, 2023 about the fire which broke out in the hand-gloves making factory.
"We received a call at 2:15 a.m. When we reached the incident site, we found the entire factory in flames”, Mohan Mungse, a fire officer, told ANI.
Mungse said as many as six people were inside the factory when the fire broke out. All of them are now dead.
“Locals informed us that six people were trapped inside. Our officers entered and recovered their dead bodies," Mungse said.
Local residents further said there were at least 12-15 people inside the factory building when the blaze started.
"Some managed to escape, but others were trapped inside," they said, as quoted by ANI.
Four of those trapped inside have been identified as Bhulla Shaikh (65), Kausar Shaikh (26), Iqbal Shaikh (26), and Maroof Shaikh (25). The company was closed at night, and they were sleeping when the fire broke out, according to local residents.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Waluj MIDC is located around 12 km southwest of the Aurangabad - the city having immense historical significance in Marathwada region of Maharashtra.
This is the second incident of fire in Maharashtra MIDC industrial areas in the last two days. On the previous day, a chemical factory in Taluja MIDC area of Navi Mumbai had met with a similar fate.
