Varanasi: Social media users Wednesday January 31, 2024 compared the court order allowing puja in the basement of Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi with Babri Masjid which was consequently demolished and later a temple was built on the same place following a Supreme Court order.
“Babri repeating”, a social media user who identified him as Shuja wrote on X, formerly Twitter. In his bio, Shuja says he is an activist.

“They are using the same modus operandi which they used for Babri Mosque. A Varanasi district court allowed Hindus to offer prayers in southern cellar of Gyanvapi mosque.”

Author and Journalist, Syed Ubaidur Rahman, writing on social media site X, said the court order was on the expected lines.
"As expected a report by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) strongly suggests the existence of a substantial Hindu temple structure at the #GyanvapiMosque complex in Varanasi, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain said. This was the main fear of the Muslims for the last many months (sic)", Syed Ubaid wrote.
Sharing the report that the court allowed Hindus to perform puja in the Gyanvapi Masjid, social media user Wajid Khan wrote:
"Congratulations!! The Indian law is equal for everyone."
Social media user, Razia Masood, writing on Twitter, said:
"Judic!ary Helping P0litical Parties is a New Trend in New Bharat"
"Muslims are being hurt again & again by Vi0lating the Places of Worship Act 1991. To what extent is it right to do d!rty p0litics of religion & h@tred between Hindus & Muslims for p0litical gains? #GyanvapiMosque (sic)."
Exactly opposite are the reactions of the social media users who identified them as Hindus.
Rudhra Nandu, who identifies him as a Computer Science student, commenting on the Varanasi Court order, said:
"India is the only country in the world where despite the structure looking like this, Hindus have to prove that the mosque is built over an ancient Hindu temple. The reason for it is because India is a Hindu majority state and tolerance of Hindus (sic)".
Gayatri, who introduces her as "Ex Conservative candidate", commenting on the court judgement wrote:
"I come from a Hindu majority country where Hindus have to fight for their rights to offer prayers in a temple. Thats secularism for you (sic)".

In the Gyanvapi Mosque case, popular as Gyanvapi Mosque-Kashi Vishwanath Temple dispute, the Varanasi Court Wednesday allowed the Hindus to perform puja inside the ‘Vyas Ka Tekhana‘ area of mosque complex which as of now is sealed.
The court in its order asked the District Administration to make the necessary arrangements for puja in the next seven days, advocate Vishnu Jain Shankar, who represents the Hindu community in the court, said while talking to reporters.
Located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Gyanvapi Masjid was built probably by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1678. Hindus claimed the mosque was built after demolishing a temple of Shiva.
After a court monitored survey back in May 2022, Hindu lawyers claimed ‘discovery’ of ‘Shivling’ in the historic masjid. The mosque management however claimed that what is being claimed as Shivling was actually a fountain.
Commenting on it, AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi had said that the ‘discovery’ of shivling in Gyanvapi Masjid was “textbook repeat of 1949 when in the similar manner the status of Babri Masjid was changed.
Consequently, Babri Masjid was demolished by the right-wing Hindu extremists, and the construction of a Ram Temple was facilitated by the order of Supreme Court of India.
Interestingly, the Supreme Court of India while granting the permission to build Ram Temple on the site where Babri Masjid stood till December 06, 1992 also observed that there was no proof to show the mosque was built after demolishing any mandir.
The mandir was however built and was opened for Hindu devotees in a controversial ceremony on January 22, 2024.
