Saudi Pro League 26/27: Legendary Portuguese Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo’s 978th Career Goal helped Al-Nassr FC defeat Al-Taawoun in their latest Saudi Pro League 2026-27 Group Match Friday at Awwal Park in Riyadh.

Playing against Al-Taawoun, Al-Nassr FC struggled in the First Half as the visitors took early lead. The host however bounced back deep into the First Half stoppage time (45+5'), thanks to Samu Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo who finished the match with the score yelling at 2-1 in Al-Nassr’s favour.

Al-Taawoun vs Al-Nassr Highlights

In the away match against Al Nassr Friday, Al-Taawoun took early lead courtesy Mohammed Bassam Al Hurayji who shined when the match was into 11th minute.

Al Hurayji’s early goal against Al-Nassr was made possible with the help of teammate Mohammed Al-Aqel who took the shot deflected by Al Nassr goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi onto the crossbar, landing right in front of him. Al Hurayji reacted quickest to tap home the rebound from close range, giving his side an early 1-0 lead.

The match moved on with Al-Nassr putting in all efforts in search of the equalizer. The moment came minutes before the vessel sounded for the First Half when Samu Costa struck a precise effort from outside the penalty box to level the score at 1-1.

It was then left to Cristiano Ronaldo to score the winner. Ronaldo’s goal Friday came in the 50th minute of the match. João Félix initiated the attack with a run down the left wing and delivered a cutback. The ball eventually fell to defender Mohamed Simakan, whose goal-bound shot from six yards out was cleverly flicked into the net by Ronaldo with his heel.

Ronaldo at 978

Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal against Al-Taawoun Friday took his career total to 978 goals. The star footballer is now just 22 goals away from the historic milestone of 1,000 goals.
Ronaldo’s 978 goals in international football came in just 1,333 games.

With the 978th Career Goals, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner also became the highest goal scorer for Al-Nassr Football Club. Ronaldo's Saudi Pro League goal tally for Nassr now stands at 104, one more than Mohammed Al Sahlawi's previous best.

Ronaldo’s match against Taawoun Friday was also the first full game the Portuguese footballer played this season. Ronaldo had missed the opening Pro League 26/27 match of Al-Nassr and was substituted in the team’s last match against Al-Ettifaq. Ronaldo played in the Al-Nassr vs Al-Riyadh and even scored, but was called on the ground after the First Half.

With the victory against Al-Taawoun, Al Nassr keeps its unbeaten run in the Saudi Pro League 26/27 with the 4th consecutive win. Al Nassr now leads the SPL 2026-27 Standings Table with 12 points.

Al-Nassr will now play against Karim Benzema’s Al-Ittihad on September 05, 2026.

In other SPl matches of the week, Al Hilal Saudi Club defeated Al-Khaleej 5-1, and Neom was beaten by Al Riyadh in their respective matches.
