Lucknow: Lucknow, Azamgarh, Kannauj, Hamirpur and Fatehpur, the list of Uttar Pradesh cities where students, Gen Alpha, are protesting against the Adityanath Government is growing with every passing day.
As you read this, hundreds of students are sitting in front of the main gate of Smith Inter College in Azamgarh protesting against the rising fees, inadequate staff and poor infrastructure.
“Who is responsible for the mess?” the students are asking.

On Monday August 17, 2026, hundreds of girl-students of Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, also called Ashram Paddhati Vidyalayas, ran over 2.5 kilometers and blocked the highway near Dubagga-Kanpur bypass around 07:00 am despite rains.
“Call the DM… Call the CM”, the girl-students were shouting.
The students were angry teachers’ shortage and other issues faced by them in the school.
“We don’t have Physics, Biology and Maths teachers in our schools… Exams are approaching… Who will take responsibility if we fail in the exam”, they said while talking to local reporters.

Social Welfare Department Principal Secretary Anurag Yadav, Secretary and Director Sanjeev Singh, Social Welfare Officer Anjani Kumar, and Sarojini Nagar SDM Abhishek Kumar Singh reached the school to meet the students.
The officials held discussions with the students for around two and a half hours before leaving the school. The officials admitted the demands of Gen Alpha students were about some very basic things.
The girl students of Lucknow’s Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya protested a day after the boys of the same school jammed the Agra Expressway in the UP capital protesting against the shortcomings in the school.
Reports of protests are also coming from Kannauj, Fatehpur, Hamirpur and other parts of Uttar Pradesh.
In Chandupur village of Hamirpur, hundreds of students holding the Indian Tricolor marched over 5 kilometers to reach the Collector (DM) office and sit on dharna. The Allahabad High Court on Friday took suo motu cognizance of the students' protest and issued notice.

Samajwadi Party Chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav has claimed that over 26,000 government schools have been closed in the last ten years of BJP rule in Uttar Pradesh.
“The actual number of schools shut in the name of merger in the last ten years is 26,386”, Akhilesh Singh Yadav said.
“Some 28 lakh students have suffered and dropped out from the schools because of the closure. Of them around 25 lakh affected students are from PDA – weaker sections of the society including OBCs, SCs and STs”, he added.
“The enrollment of girl-students in these schools who will no more have access to education is around 16 lakh”, Akhilesh said.
“Besides school dropout, the closure of schools in such a large numbers has also resulted in unemployment”, he said.
Akhilesh further said that the district where maximum number of schools have been shut are Lakhimpuri Kheri followed by Sitapur, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur, which is Adityanath’s home constituency.
