Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Election Commission Monday August 31, 2026 released the draft electoral lists of all 288 Assembly constituencies after Special Intensive Revision (SIR), dropping a whopping 2.06 crore names from the earlier rolls.
The maximum number of names deleted is 28,66,481 from Pune followed by Thane (28,59,377), Mumbai Suburban (26,58,202) and Nashik (10,27,792).
The citizens who find their names missing from the electoral list have been given voters opportunity to check their names and submit claims and objections.
Maharashtra had a total of 9,78,54,049 voters before the revision. Of them, 7,71,65,562 voters, constituting 78.86 per cent, have been included in the draft electoral rolls. The draft list comprises 3,95,89,905 male voters, 3,75,72,570 female voters and 3,087 third-gender voters, according to the Chief Electoral Officer data released today.
Why 2.06 named dropped?
The State Election Commission cited 5 reasons for dropping over 2.06 crore names from the Maharashtra Electoral Rolls.
"A total of 2,06,88,487 electors (21.14%) from the previous electoral rolls could not be included in the Draft Electoral Rolls as their Enumeration Forms were not collected, due to the following reasons:
- Being absent/not found at the place of residence mentioned in the Electoral Roll
- Having shifted from the place of residence as mentioned in Electoral Roll
- Being dead
- Having been enrolled elsewhere/being a duplicate entry
- Other reasons, including refusal by the elector to fill and submit the Enumeration Form, etc.
Appeal Deadline
The Maharashtra Election Commission said the citizens whose names are missing can appeal withing one month.
"As per the schedule of the Election Commission of India, an opportunity to file claims and objections in respect of the Draft Electoral Rolls will be available for a period of one month, from August 31, 2026 to September 30, 2026", the Poll Panel said.
"Eligible electors whose names have not been included in the Draft Electoral Rolls, as well as new electors who have attained or will attain the age of 18 years on or before 01.10.2026, may apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll by submitting Form-6 along with the prescribed declaration.
"After due verification, the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will take an appropriate decision on such applications, and the names of eligible electors will be included in the Final Electoral Rolls", the State Election Commission said.
Lists of electors whose names were included in the electoral rolls prior to the commencement of the revision but could not be included in the Draft Electoral Rolls, along with the reasons therefor, namely Absent / Shifted / Dead / Duplicate / Other (ASDDO), have also been made available on the official websites. "These lists are also being displayed on the notice boards of important Government offices in the districts", the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra said.
Forms to submit whiling filing appeal
If any person has an objection to the inclusion of a particular name in the electoral roll, a person who is an elector in the concerned Assembly Constituency may file such objection in Form-7.
If any correction is required in an entry (e.g. correction in name, address, age, gender,etc.) in the electoral roll, the concerned elector may submit a request for such correction through Form-8.
During the period for filing claims and objections, lists of claims and objections received Assembly Constituency-wise will be prepared every week by the Electoral Registration Officers. Such lists will also be made available on the websites of the respective District Election Officers and the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra.
"Notices will be issued by the Electoral Registration Officers to electors included in the Draft Electoral Rolls who are unmapped with the electoral rolls of 2002-2004 (Unmapped Electors), as well as to electors whose mapping has been completed but where Logical Discrepancies have been identified. Upon submission of documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India, or any other valid documents, by the concerned electors, the same will be duly verified and an appropriate decision will be taken", Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer said.
"Any person who makes a false declaration or statement while applying for inclusion of a name, correction of an entry, or deletion of a name from the electoral roll is liable for imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both, under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950", he added.
