New Delhi: Two female Muslim Journalists associated with 4PM News Thursday September 03, 2026 said they had been brutally beaten by Delhi Police Personnel.
Sharing in detail their ordeal, Shaheen Khan said she and her colleague Nafeesa Khan had asked some uncomfortable questions to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
“This infuriated the Delhi Personnel who started beating both of us”, Shaheen said.
She said there was an incoming call on her phone when she was being beaten by the Police.
“The incoming call displayed the caller’s ID as “Mohammed”. Noticing this, a Delhi Police Officer said, Muslim hai… Do dando zyada maor”, Shaheen said in a video.
Shaheen said she and her colleague Nafeesa were repeatedly slapped in the face, and mercilessly beaten by lathis.
In the video shared by Shaheen, Nafeesa can be seen in shock, and semi-unconscious condition inside the Saket Police Station, Delhi.
"This journalist's crime was nothing more than asking questions! The brushes on her body are telling us what has become of democracy now!" 4 PM News wrote while sharing the video on X.

"Delhi Police's Thuggery"
Taking note of the incident, the Congress Party termed it "the BJP government and Delhi Police's thuggery".
"When journalist Shaheen from 4PM asked Chief Minister Rekha Gupta a question, Delhi Police took her into custody and assaulted her. Shaheen says—when the policemen found out she was Muslim, they beat her even more brutally. She has wounds on her body.. the camera person is also lying unconscious", the Congress Party said in a statement on X while tagging the video.

"Such treatment of a journalist is absolutely unacceptable, and strict action must be taken against the guilty policemen. However, the chances of that are slim, because—in the BJP government, asking questions has become a crime", the Congress said.
"Utterly reprehensible"
Congress Spokesperon and MP, Pawan Khera, called the incident "utterly reprehensible".
"What are these horrifying visuals coming out of a Delhi police station? Women journalists being beaten and thrashed for asking questions about the Delhi CM", he wrote on X.
"And when the police allegedly discovered that one of these journalists was Muslim, the assault intensified... Is this a democracy - or a police state?" Khera asked.
"Utterly reprehensible", he said.
The Delhi government or the Police have so far not commented on the incident.
Press Council of India urged to take suo moto cognisance
The Press Club of India, Indian Women’s Press Corps, Delhi Union of Journalists, Press Association, and Kerala Union of Working Journalist condemned the incident and called for punitive action against Delhi Police officials posted at the Saket Police Station.
"The Press Club of India, Indian Women's Press Corps, Delhi Union of Journalists, Press Association, and Kerala Union of Working Journalist strongly condemn and call for punitive action against Delhi Police officials posted at the Saket Police Station, including the Station House Officer (SHO), for brutally assaulting freelance journalists Shaheen Khan and Nafisa Khan while they were reporting about the inauguration of a new wing at the Max Hospital in Saket by Home Minister, Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta", the Press Club of India and others said in a joint statement.
"The two journalists were first manhandled at the spot by a group of Delhi Police personnel from the Saket Police Station, and then they were dragged into a police vehicle and taken to the Saket Police Station", the joint statement said.
"Upon reaching the police station, the SHO allegedly instructed police officials to take the two journalists to a room, where women officers also joined, and started beating Shaheen and Nafisa. The police officials then determined their religious identity and escalated their attacks, reportedly hurling religion-specific abuses at the two. They were also threatened with the registration of FIRs. As per the videos circulating on social media, the two journalists suffered multiple bruises and welts on their bodies", the statement said.
"We call upon the Press Council of India to take suo moto cognisance of this matter and launch an independent investigation against the police officials who violently tried to suppress press freedom", the statement said.
