New Delhi:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was on Friday administered oath of
office and secrecy by President Pratibha Patil for a second
consecutive term at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was followed by his
ministerial colleagues in the cabinet.
The
next to follow immediately after him was senior
Congress
leader Pranab Mukherjee who took the oath as Cabinet Minister.
Among others who took the oath as cabinet ministers include NCP
supremo Sharad Pawar, A K Antony, P Chidambaram, Trinamool Congress
chief Mamata Banerjee, former Chief Ministers S M Krishna, Ghulam
Nabi Azad and Veerappa Moily.
Sushilkumar Shinde, S Jaipal Reddy, Kamal Nath, Vayalar Ravi, Meira
Kumar, Murli Deora, Kapil Sibal, Ambika Soni, B K Handique, Anand
Sharma and C P Joshi, a professor of psychology who turned to
politics and swung the December 2008 Rajasthan assembly election
result in the favour of the Congress, also took the oath after Prime
Minister and his cabinet colleagues.
Shinde's name was earlier taking the rounds as the new speaker. With
his induction into the new cabinet speculation for him to become the
speaker has ended.
"This will be followed in the next few days by an expansion of the
Council of Ministers, including cabinet ministers, ministers of
state with independent charge as well as other ministers of state,"
Media Adviser to Prime Minister Deepak Sandhu said in
a statement.
She said this expansion would give due representation to the allies.
The names of law minister H R Bhardwaj, HRD minister
Arjun Singh,
water resources minister Saifuddin Soz and mines minister Sis Ram
Ola do not find a place among those to be inducted.
Railway minister Lalu Prasad also does not figure in the list with
the UPA deciding to keep out those who had not fought as part of the
alliance as also Mani Shakar Aiyar, Shanker Singh Vaghela who had
lost elections.
Mukherjee is likely to retain finance which he got as additional
charge towards the fag end of the tenure of the outgoing
government.
The names of Krishna and Kamal Nath are being mentioned for external
affairs ministry.
Chidambaram and Antony are expected to retain home and defence
respectively.
