Pune:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Gopinath
Munde charged the Maharashtra Government with attempting to change
history by negating the glorious role of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Commenting on the communal tension prevailing in the state''s Sangli
District Munde blamed the State Government for it.
Munde has been prevented from entering Satara and Sangli districts
in the western part of the state.
Munde has said that he is ready to court arrest with regard to the
issue.
Speaking to the media in Pune, Munde said: "The Congress-Nationalist
Congress Party (NCP) Government in the state was trying to re write
the secular history of Maharashtra."
"The arch depicting a historical scene from life of Shivaji was not
allowed to be erected in Miraj leading to trouble," Munde said
The controversy over a scene on a Ganesh Pendal led to communal
violence in the Sangli district.
Munde said "The police were trying to bring the explosive situation
under control by using repressive methods leading to escalation of
tension."
"Sarvajanik Ganesh idols are being forcefully immersed using
municipal garbage vans in Miraj leading to anger and anguish among
the people and volunteers of mandals", Munde alleged.
He added that as many as 110 idols were yet to be traditionally
immersed in the town.
Munde said the BJP had no intention of deriving political mileage
from this unfortunate situation and he would attend the all-party
meeting convened by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in Mumbai to restore
peace.
